Kuwait, SONNA – The Commissioner of Somalia’s Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Ma’alin Abdulle, held high-level discussions with Major General Talal Mohammed Al-Roumi, Chief of the General Staff of the Kuwaiti Fire Force, during the 6th Arab Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Kuwait. The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in disaster preparedness, emergency response, and fire management.
The talks centered on strengthening collaboration between Somalia and Kuwait in critical areas such as training, equipping, and developing fire and emergency services. Both parties also explored opportunities for knowledge exchange and sharing best practices in managing emergencies, particularly fires, and mitigating risks associated with various types of disasters.
The 6th Arab Regional Platform, hosted by the Government of Kuwait in partnership with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and the League of Arab States, brought together over 600 participants from governments, civil society organizations, universities, the private sector, and international organizations. The forum served as a platform for discussing innovative strategies to reduce disaster risks and enhance regional resilience.
Commissioner Abdulle expressed his gratitude to the Government of Kuwait for hosting the conference and commended the outcomes of the forum, including the Kuwait Declaration. He also acknowledged Kuwait’s ongoing support for the Somali people, particularly in areas of humanitarian aid and disaster management.
The discussions show the importance of regional cooperation in addressing the growing challenges posed by natural and man-made disasters. By leveraging Kuwait’s advanced fire and emergency services, Somalia aims to enhance its disaster response capabilities and improve the safety and resilience of its citizens.
