Shabelle river floods displaces 244’000 families

Mogadishu(SONNA)-Over 244’000 families displaced from 92 neighborhoods under Bal’ad and Jowhar districts in Middle Shabelle region by Shabelle river floods that had bad impact on those families and their properties, both livestock and crops, SONNA reported.

Deputy Governor of Middle Shabelle region, Mohamed Sh. Handow told Somali National News Agency that the residents, livestock keepers, and farmers were mostly affected by the river floods in the region so far.

“The Floods completely destroyed crops mainly rice, maize, sesame and various kinds of vegetables. there is also a fear of fresh floods made by the river”, Mr. Handow said.

Middle Shabelle and Hiiraan regions are the worst affected areas by the recent floods.
