The recently concluded Executive Council Ministerial meeting of the African Union decided as follows in regard to regional rotation of the 8 elective posts of the Senior Leadership of the AU Commission.
1. The 𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧 region shall submit candidates for the position of the 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧.
2. The 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐧 region shall submit candidates for the position of the 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧.
Both regions can submit Male and female candidates. The gender of the elected Chairperson will determine the gender of the Deputy Chairperson to be elected.
3. The 𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧, 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐧 regions will submit candidates for the remaining posts of 𝟔 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 taking into account gender balance. Re-election is open for eligible candidates and posts.
