Mogadishu (SONNA) – The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E Mohamed Hussein Roble, addressed a special joint press conference at the Presidential Palace in Mogadishu on Monday.
The Prime Minister said the steps taken by the former president were a coup d’état to undermine the government, the constitution and the rule of law.
“In addition to violating the country’s laws, Farmajo attacked the office of the Prime Minister and the headquarters of the Council of Ministers in an attempt to prevent them from fulfilling their national duties today,” said Roble.
The PM noted that Farmajo’s intentions were to undermine the country’s electoral process, in order to keep himself in office in the same manner as the failed attempt in April that almost destroyed the country but was prevented.
The Prime Minister also informed the Somali people that since the former president apparently decided to dismantle the government institutions without any legitimacy, he said “I assure the Somali people that the Federal Government of Somalia is fulfilling its constitutional mandate. As the transitional government is fully responsible for leading and directing all the various institutions of the Nation, therefore I instruct all the Armed Forces as to report directly to the Office of the Prime Minister as the head of government”. Federal Government of Somalia, will take immediate action against anyone who opposes this order.
Farmajo as we know is a presidential candidate who is no different from other candidates running for office so the military cannot take orders.
