Jeddah (SONNA) – The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is looking forward to having Sudan removed from the US State Sponsors of Terrorism list soon.
The General Secretariat’s statement comes against the backdrop of Sudan’s progress towards improved relations with the international community, the ongoing Sudanese-American ties normalization talks, and the US Department of State’s newly released Country Reports on Terrorism 2019.
The OIC General Secretariat hopes that Sudan’s removal from terrorism list will contribute to the achievement of peace, security, stability and economic development in the country.
It is noteworthy that the latest Islamic Summit held in Makkah in May 2019 called for lifting sanctions on Sudan, including its removal from the State Sponsors of Terrorism list, given the transitional government’s cooperation with the international community to battle terrorism.
