Mogadishu, SONNA — The National Communications Authority (NCA) convened a national consultation to develop Somalia’s Cybersecurity Risk Management and Compliance Framework, bringing together key government institutions, private-sector stakeholders, the education sector, civil society, and technical experts.
The consultation aimed to gather input and strengthen collaboration on developing a comprehensive framework to enhance the country’s cybersecurity posture, safeguard critical digital infrastructure, and ensure effective risk management and compliance across sectors.
Speaking at the meeting, the Director General of the National Communications Authority, Mr. Mustafa Yasin Sheikh, emphasized the importance of thorough engagement with the draft framework:
We encourage all stakeholders to take the time to carefully review the document, analyze it in detail, and provide thoughtful input on each component.”
The State Minister of Communications and Technology, H.E. MP Ahmed Osman Dirie, who inaugurated the meeting, highlighted the growing importance of cybersecurity in an increasingly digital society:
The use of technology continues to expand and affects many aspects of life, including education and business. Without proper safeguards, these advancements can pose risks. Establishing a robust cybersecurity risk management and compliance framework is essential, and the National Communications Authority is mandated to lead this effort on behalf of the government.”
The meeting underscored the critical role of coordinated efforts to address emerging cyber threats and build a resilient digital ecosystem in Somalia. Participants discussed risk identification, regulatory compliance mechanisms, and institutional responsibilities.
The outcomes of the consultation will inform the finalization of the Cybersecurity Risk Management and Compliance Framework, which will serve as a key instrument in strengthening national cybersecurity governance.
