SONNA – Health Ministry of Syria: Death toll due to the earthquake has increased to 237 deaths and 639 injuries, mostly in Lattakia, Aleppo, Hama and Tartous.
Dozens of buildings were also destroyed or damaged in opposition-held areas in northern Syria, where rescue teams are frantically searching for survivors.
The earthquake was felt in Syria’s Idlib, Aleppo, Hama, Latakia, and Raqqa provinces. According to initial reports, at least 100 people lost their lives and hundreds were injured in various parts of Syria.
Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority put the magnitude of the quake at 7.4 near Kahramanmaras and the larger city of Gaziantep, close to the Syrian border.
