Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Mohamud Adan Geesood, received Ambassador Alper Aktaş of Turkey during a recent visit.
The two officials focused on plans to support the reconstruction and development of Somalia’s ports, particularly those recovering from the destruction caused by years of conflict and challenging conditions.
Ambassador Aktaş affirmed Turkey’s readiness to assist Somalia in achieving its port development goals, utilizing Turkey’s expertise and technologies in port management.
During the meeting, it was also agreed that the Ministries of Ports of Turkey and Somalia would strengthen their cooperation to enhance the country’s port infrastructure, including modernizing port equipment, training personnel, and providing technical support for management and operations.
The meeting included Ahmet Sami, a representative from Albayrak, a Turkish company responsible for the development of the Port of Mogadishu.
Minister Geesood welcomed Turkey’s support and commitments related to port development, emphasizing that this assistance is crucial for the recovery of the country’s economy and the rebuilding of essential port infrastructure, which significantly impacts trade and economic flow in the region.
