Washington DC (SONNA)- Somali Ministry for Labour and Social Affairs, Sadik Hirsi Warfa on Tuesday held meeting with World Bank Deputy president, Havez Ghanem in Washington DC in the United States of America.
During the meeting, the two officials discussed on how the world Bank could support the initiatives by Somali Ministry for Labour and Social Affairs in terms of job creation and social protection projects in Somalia.
The World Bank-supported Social protection targets in Somalia is about 200,000 families in this year, under the implementation of Somali ministry for Labour and Social Affairs, but is expected to extend up to 1.2 million people, such as families from pastoral communities and IDPs.
“This meeting was fruitful, I thank the World Bank for its support to our country, I encouraged the continuing support of the World Bank to Somalia debt relief process, that can lead the country into economic self reliance,” the minister said.
Meanwhile, the minister participated in a Ministerial Panel discussion on Political Economy factors in Social Protection Reform and implementation which took place in Washington DC.
During his visit to US, the minister is expected to meet with US officials and other members of donors.
