Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E Hassan Sheikh Ali today opened Somali Custodial Corps Strategic Planning Consultation organised by Ministry of Justice in collaboration with International Development Law Organisation (IDLO), joined by Attorney General, US Ambassador, key judiciary officials, Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Security, and civil society.
The Minister highlighted challenges in custodial facilities due to years of neglect and reaffirmed commitment to improving conditions and capacity through coordinated efforts and enhanced accountability across the criminal justice chain.
The objectives of the consultation were to validate institutional documents, foster collaboration through a Custodial Corps Advisory/Working Group, and secure support from donors and stakeholders for long-term success.
This is a significant step towards enhancing our correctional services, ensuring security, and fostering rehabilitation. Thank you to all who contributed to this transformative event.
