Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Somali Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, HE Daud Aweys Jama, met with the Acting Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (UNSG) to Somalia, Ambassador James Swan, to discuss key national priorities.
The meeting focused on the role of national media in advancing critical priorities such as the fight against Al Shabaab, reconciliation, elections, and other important issues for Somalia.
Discussions also highlighted Somalia’s security progress, including the readiness of the Somali National Army to take full responsibility for national security after the conclusion of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
Minister Jama updated Ambassador Swan on Somalia’s advancements in constitutional review and preparations for one-person-one-vote elections planned for 2025 and 2026. Ambassador Swan praised the federal government’s efforts and reiterated the UN’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s development and stability.
The two also visited the national media archive to emphasize the importance of preserving Somalia’s media history.
In closing, Minister Jama expressed gratitude for the UN’s support over the past 30 years, emphasizing its crucial role in rebuilding Somalia’s governance and institutions.
