Manama, (SONNA) – The Minister of Communications and Technology, HE Jama Hassan Khalif together with the Manager of the National Communications Agency, Mr. Mustafa Yasin Sheikh, participated in the Conference on the Development of Communication in the Arab Countries, which was concluded today in the city of Manama, the capital of Bahrain.

The Arab Communications Development Forum is a platform designed to bring together Arab communications leaders to participate in discussions and presentations on issues of priority to the Arab region. The purpose of these consultations is to promote the economic and social development of the entire Arab countries.

The Minister of Communications and Technology and the Manager of the National Telecommunications Agency participated significantly in some of the discussions at the forum, adding their knowledge and experience to the ongoing discussions. Their participation underscores Somalia’s commitment to the country’s digital development and regional cooperation.

During the forum, the Minister and the General Manager held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Transport and Communications of Bahrain, in which they discussed the progress made by each country in the digital field. The two sides agreed on the points they discussed and promised to continue the talks on the cooperation between the two countries.

On the other hand, Somalia and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) signed a cooperation agreement at the forum. This agreement signed by the Minister of Communications and the Director of the Office of Communications Development of ITU, Mr. Cosmas Zavazava focused on the development of Communications and Information Technology (ICT) such as: increasing ICT knowledge, preparing infrastructure and communication laws, strengthening digital infrastructure, connectivity and increasing trust in digital services.

The National Telecommunication Agency commends the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for organizing this forum, which allowed the delegation to learn and exchange ideas with other delegations in this forum, and looks forward to continued collaboration with ITU and other stakeholders in telecommunications and technology to achieve its mandate towards the development of ICT in Somalia.
