Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hon. Mohamed Farah Nuux, has announced a comprehensive review of all aircraft operating within the country, with a strong emphasis on improving passenger safety and airworthiness standards.
The announcement came during a visit by the Minister to Aden Adde International Airport, where he conducted inspections and held meetings with key stakeholders, including the Deputy Minister, the Director General of the Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA), and senior aviation safety officers.
Minister Nuux underscored the government’s firm commitment to safeguarding civilian lives and ensuring that all domestic and international flights meet strict safety and operational standards. “The safety and wellbeing of our citizens is a national duty,” he stated. “We must ensure that every aircraft flying in and out of Somalia is properly inspected, registered, and maintained.”
During the visit, the Minister received detailed briefings on the current operational state of civil aviation, including updates from airport management and airline representatives. Discussions focused on existing safety protocols, challenges facing the sector, and priority areas for immediate intervention, particularly the safety of passengers and the technical condition of aircraft.
In a decisive directive, Minister Nuux ordered the urgent registration and inspection of all aircraft operating within Somalia, both for domestic and international routes. The move is part of a broader strategy to overhaul the aviation sector and build a safer, more reliable system for the Somali people.
The Ministry is working closely with the Somali Civil Aviation Authority to implement these changes and ensure compliance across the board.
