Mogadishu (SONNA) – The Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Mr. Yusuf Hussein Jimale (Madaale), hosted a meeting with the Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Somalia, Ambassador Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, along with other ministry officials at the Hamar Local Government House.
During the meeting, Minister Al-Makhzoumi presented a comprehensive report on the implementation of the nationwide ban on single-use plastic bags. She highlighted the severe environmental and health issues caused by these bags and emphasized the ministry’s commitment to enforcing the environmental protection and management law. The Minister also expressed her gratitude for the Banadir regional administration’s support in this crucial initiative.
Mayor Jimale commended the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change for its relentless efforts to eliminate single-use plastic bags, which pose a significant threat to public health, the environment, and the aesthetic appeal of Mogadishu. He reaffirmed the regional administration’s dedication to collaborating with the ministry to ensure the successful implementation of environmental protection measures.
