Baidoa (SONNA)-Social Safety Net Program Supports Poor Households with predictable income, it also strengthens Social Contract between the Citizens & Governments. In South West, BAXNAANO Supports 26,046 Households, in 3 Districts. 35% have received Fist quarter payment.
This high level meeting was held at the state house of south west in Baidoa to discuss the operational status of the safety net program in the region. The meeting was chaired by the acting minister of labour his Excellency Sadiq Hirsi Warfa. The meeting was attended by the speaker of south west parliament Ali Said Fiqi, the south west minister of labor, the chair of Bahnaano social safety net program Fardowsa Ahmed Abdullahi and ministers from the federal state of South west.
Abdulkadir Omar Abdullahi, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of the Southwest State said. “Baxnaano Program has reached many areas of the State and has contributed to social change and livelihood recovery of our vulnerable households”
The acting minister of labor and social works from the federal government of Somalia his Excellency Sadiq Hirsi Warfa said in a speech at the event “The Somali government is committed to reduce poverty & provide reliable support to vulnerable people. To make this possible, H.E President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo recently launched this historic program. Today, we are evaluating the operational status in South West State”
The speaker of the south west parliament said the program will allow people to stay in their hometowns and not migrate to cities. People migrate to seek livelihood in towns and seek better social amenities, if all that is achieved in their areas of origin than the displacement will not occur. He added that his administration will facilitate the technicalities that will see through the process.
Speaking at the closure of the meeting Speaker Ali Said Fiqi of SWS said “This program bridges the gap and prevents people from displacing and seeking livelihoods in the cities. We now see South west state vulnerable people making a difference in their lives through this Program.”
The social safety net was launched by the president of the federal government of Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo to protect the public. The program that is to run for a year is expected to benefit more that 1.3 million citizens who are in need of the program and they will be selected based in merit.
