Mogadishu (SONNA) – The much-anticipated football competition in the districts of Banadir Region and Balcad District was officially inaugurated today at the Eng. Yarisow Stadium by the Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Mr. Yusuf Hussein Jimale (Madaale).
In his opening remarks, Mayor Jimale emphasized the vital role of sports in fostering social integration and urged the youth to actively participate. He extended his best wishes to all the districts competing, with a special mention of Heliwaa and Gubadlee districts, which faced off in the opening match this afternoon.
The event saw a significant turnout, including the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, MP Mohamud Abdulqadir Haji (Jego), the Minister of State for Defence, various MPs, Deputy Governors of the Banadir Regional Government, the Chairman of the Somali Football Federation, the Chairman of the Football Association of Banadir, district governors, and numerous enthusiastic supporters.
The opening match between Heliwaa and Gubadleey districts concluded in a goalless draw, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting and competitive tournament.
