Mogadishu(SONNA) Ministry of education from the federal government of Somalia held consultative meeting with the ministries of education from member states and Banaadir region administration.
The consultative meeting was held in Mogadishu and it was chaired by the deputy minister of education, heritage and higher education Feysal Omar Gulled.
The officials discussed how to unify curriculum and cooperate on unified examination system that will promote quality of education in the country. They also discussed equal access to higher education for all students seeking to study locally and abroad.
The officials agreed on a number of issues including:
National plan on the implementation of the upcoming examination of standard 8 to standard 12 that will be used as foundation for the coming examinations.
There is a constitutional provision that states that every child has the right to education. The education officials agreed to comply with that mandate and provide quality education to all learners in the country. They also agreed to work with concerned agencies to provide learning materials to students.
The implementation of unified national exams that will be observed at the same time country wide.The officials decided to formulate national strategy on issuance of national examination certificate.
The national examination period for the year 2020 has been set for April 15th to April 29th. Any student who does not sit for that exam will not be entitled to a certificate.
Students who failed in the previous year examination will have another opportunity to sit for the exams this year after the fulfill due process in registering for the national exams.
The deputy minister urged to the ministers from member states to uphold the status of the Somali national exam certificate which has good reputation.
This can be maintained by observing strict examination policing and protection.
