A high-level federal delegation led by the Second Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Mr. Abdullahi Hirsi Timacade, arrived in Las Anod, the capital of Sool region, on Thursday.
The delegation, which included members of both houses of parliament and the Minister of Telecommunication and Technology, Mr. Jama Hassan Khalif, was welcomed by the regional administration, elders and residents.
The purpose of the visit was to assess the security, humanitarian and development situation in the region and to provide an official report to the Federal Government. The delegation also aimed to strengthen the unity and stability of Somalia and to express solidarity with the people of Sool.
The delegation visited the homes of the elders and the places where conflicts and destruction occurred in the recent battles that took place in Las Anod and Gojacadde. They praised the efforts of the local authorities and communities to restore peace and stability in the region.
The Second Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Mr. Timacade, said that their visit was part of their constitutional duty to represent and serve the Somali people. He said that they were happy with the progress made in the region and that they would continue to support the development and reconciliation initiatives.
The Minister of Telecommunication and Technology, Mr. Khalif, said that they were impressed by the level of communication and technology infrastructure in the region. He said that they would work to enhance the connectivity and access to information for the people of Sool.
The delegation also met with representatives of civil society, women and youth groups, and discussed their challenges and opportunities. They urged them to play an active role in the peacebuilding and state-building process.
The visit was part of a series of outreach activities by the federal delegation to different regions of Somalia. The delegation is expected to visit other areas in the coming days.
