Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Mr. Isaak Mohamud Mursal, received on Saturday in his office at the ministry in the capital Mogadishu a joint delegation from the African Union (AU) and the United Nations (UN) as part of preparations for the Independent Strategic Review (ISR) of the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS), mandated by UN Security Council Resolution 2767 (2024).
The meeting dealt with the review process aimed at assessing and proposing ways to rightsize and optimize the efficiency, performance, management, and structures of UNSOS while ensuring its continued effectiveness in supporting the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), paving the way for the potential implementation of the framework established by Resolution 2719 (2023) from 1 July 2025.
The review team is co-led by Ambassador Maman Sidikou from the African Union and Mr. Neil Cole from the United Nations, with support from a technical team representing both organizations and engaging key stakeholders, including the Federal Government of Somalia.
