Mogadishu(SONNA)-The Minister of Health and Social Care of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Dr. Fawziya Abikar Nur, received on Sunday at the Aden Abdulle International Airport in the capital, Mogadishu, a shipment of medical supplies to combat the Corona Virus pandemic and flood prevention equipment of 14.5 tons, provided by the European Union through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Friendly Republic of Italy.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Amb. Ahmed Isse Awad, spoke at the handover event, which was attended by the Ambassador of the European Union, H.E. Mr. Nicolas Berlanga, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy, H.E. Mr. Alberto Vecchi, expressing his thanks to the European Union and the Italian government for providing medical assistance that raises the capabilities of medical personnel in facing COVID19 . He stressed that the First flight of the EU Humanitarian Air Bridge bringing equipment to Mogadishu contained face masks, hand sanitizer fluids, gloves, protective clothing and test kits in addition to flood barrier products.
Since March 16, the Ministry of Health and Social Care has recorded 2,961 people infected with the Corona virus, including 973 recoveries and 92 deaths.
