Jeddah (SONNA) –The authorities in the Republic of Niger have decided to postpone the 47th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which was scheduled to take place on 3-4 April 2020 in the capital Niamey, until further notice.
According to a memo attributable to the Jeddah-based OIC General Secretariat, the postponement comes due to the current circumstances resulting from the outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
In a statement issued last Thursday, the General Secretariat urged all Member States for transparency and more cooperation on measures to combat coronavirus and detect the cases of the virus infections. It also welcomed the efforts being made by the Member States to contain the spread of COVID-19.
“While commending the efforts being exerted by relevant international organizations, especially the World Health Organization (WHO) and the international community in general, the OIC General Secretariat urges taking further preventive measures to spare societies the risk of disease,” the statement said.
