In the past three months, the Office of the Attorney General has been busy investigating 40 government officials. These officials have been accused of corruption, theft of public property, abuse of power, and negligence of responsibility.
Of the 40 officials under investigation, 18 have already been referred to court. The remaining 22 are still under investigation, according to a statement from the Office of the Attorney General to the Somali National News Agency (SONNA).
The Attorney General’s office is working diligently to ensure that justice is served and that those who have abused their power are held accountable for their actions. As the investigation continues, it is hoped that more information will be revealed about the extent of corruption within the government.
This investigation is part of a larger effort by the Somali government to combat corruption and promote transparency in its institutions. The Prime Minister has called for increased efforts to fight corruption and has emphasized accountability as a top priority.
The exposure of corruption within the government serves as a stark reminder that no individual, regardless of their position, is above the law. As Somalia continues its path towards rebuilding and strengthening its institutions, eradicating corruption remains a crucial priority for the nation’s progress and the well-being of its citizens.
