Southwest Committee Reviews El Niño Preparedness in Lower Shabelle

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Ministerial Committee for El Niño Preparedness and Response in Southwest State, led by Committee Chair and Southwest Minister of Humanitarian Affairs H.E. Abdinasir Abdi Arush, met with humanitarian organizations operating in districts across Lower Shabelle region.

The meeting focused on current humanitarian needs and preparations to provide assistance to communities in the event of expected floods.

Participants reviewed the latest El Niño situation, with rainfall expected to begin in the coming days and concerns over its potential impact on communities living along the riverbanks.

The Southwest administration pledged to facilitate the work of humanitarian organizations to strengthen preparedness and ensure rapid assistance reaches communities affected by floods.

The meeting was attended by ministers responsible for planning, women, energy and water, traditional elders, the Lower Shabelle regional administration and the regional humanitarian coordinator.
