Somalia, India Discuss Strengthening Cooperation in Transport and Civil Aviation

Mogadishu, (SONNA)— The Director General of the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Omar Ali Afrah today received Ambassador of India to Somalia Dr. Adarsh Swaika, who arrived in Mogadishu.
The introductory meeting focused on the historic relations between Somalia and India, particularly cooperation in transport and civil aviation.
The Director General welcomed the Ambassador and his delegation, highlighting the importance Somalia attaches to its historic, cultural and trade relations with India, as well as the connectivity between the two countries across the Indian Ocean.
Ambassador Adarsh Swaika said strengthening air connectivity between Somalia and India is an important priority, emphasizing the need to further advance bilateral relations and cooperation.
The Director General also highlighted opportunities to expand cooperation in developing civil aviation capacity, particularly aviation safety, air navigation services and airspace management, airport development, technical training and the use of modern aviation technology.
The Ministry also emphasized the importance of enabling Somali civil aviation professionals to benefit from India’s expertise and training institutions to strengthen the knowledge and capacity of Somalia’s aviation institutions.
The two sides agreed to further strengthen technical cooperation between relevant institutions in the two countries to achieve practical steps and tangible results in advancing Somalia-India cooperation in transport and civil aviation.
