National Climate Fund Executive Director Participates in Climate Finance, Peace and Security Forum

Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Executive Director of Somalia’s National Climate Fund (NCF), Liban Absiye, today participated in a virtual forum on Climate Finance, Peace and Security, which brought together government officials, international financial institutions, development partners, and climate finance organizations.
The discussions focused on mobilizing, accessing, and effectively utilizing climate finance to strengthen community resilience against climate change, reduce climate-related risks, and support Somalia’s sustainable development priorities. Participants also examined the role of climate finance in promoting peacebuilding, enhancing cooperation, and advancing sustainable development in Somalia and the wider region.
Speaking at the forum, Executive Director Liban Absiye underscored the critical importance of climate finance in strengthening Somalia’s resilience and supporting national efforts to address the growing impacts of climate change.
He emphasized that climate finance is not limited to a single project or institution but represents a national priority led by the Federal Government of Somalia, requiring close collaboration among government institutions, development partners, and other stakeholders to achieve the country’s climate adaptation and sustainable development goals.
The forum concluded with participants exchanging views and experiences on strengthening cooperation and expanding climate finance to support climate action, peace, and sustainable development in Somalia.
