Environment Minister, UN Deputy Special Representative Discuss Climate Cooperation and COP31 Preparations

Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Minister of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Government if Somalia, H.E. Bashir Mohamed Jama, held a productive meeting on Monday with the United Nations Deputy Special Representative for Somalia, George Conway, to discuss strengthening cooperation on environmental protection and climate action.
The meeting focused on enhancing collaboration between the Federal Government of Somalia and United Nations agencies, particularly in the areas of environmental conservation, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and the implementation of strategic development projects aimed at supporting the country’s sustainable growth.
The two officials also reviewed Somalia’s preparations for participation in the upcoming COP31 global climate conference. They underscored the importance of presenting a unified national position to maximize opportunities for securing international climate finance and technical support.
Both sides emphasized the need to strengthen partnerships that will help Somalia address the impacts of climate change while advancing the country’s priority environmental and development initiatives.
