SoDMA Commissioner Meets Iraqi Delegation on Sidelines of 6th Arab Forum on Disaster Risk Reduction in Kuwait
Kuwait City, SONNA – February 12, 2025 – The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Ma’allin Abdulle, met with the Iraqi Government delegation led by Dr. Halo Mustafa Askari, Minister of Environment, on the sidelines of the 6th Arab Forum on Disaster Risk Reduction in Kuwait. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in disaster management, risk reduction, and the exchange of expertise to address natural and man-made hazards.
The discussions highlighted the importance of collaboration in disaster prevention, capacity building, and the sharing of knowledge and modern technologies. Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in research, training, and the implementation of innovative solutions to improve disaster resilience.
This meeting took place against the backdrop of the broader Kuwait Declaration on Disaster Risk Reduction, which outlined a comprehensive roadmap for Arab states to address the growing challenges of disasters and build resilient societies. The declaration emphasized the need for regional coordination, increased investment in disaster risk reduction, and the use of advanced technologies to improve early warning systems and risk assessment.
The Somali and Iraqi delegations expressed their commitment to implementing the outcomes of the forum and working together to achieve the goals of the Sendai Framework and the Arab Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction.
