Mogadishu, (SONNA) – A delegation led by the Director of Procurement and Supply Chain Management from the Ministry of Health of Somalia, Mr. Mohamed Abdulqadir Hirsi visited Tanzania for a knowledge-sharing trip from February 3 to 7, 2025.
The Medical Stores Department (MSD) of Tanzania hosted the delegation, sharing in-depth insights on key aspects of health supply management. Topics covered included estimating medicine needs, procurement processes, storage, distribution, quality assurance, pharmaceutical manufacturing, digital systems for managing health supply data, health insurance, and other components of health supply management.
During the visit, MSD provided the delegation with a comprehensive understanding of health supply management through presentations, discussions, and visits to key health facilities. These included the MSD medicine storage facility, a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant, various hospitals, and the Ministry of Health in Tanzania, located in Dar es Salaam and Dodoma.
The visit concluded with a meeting hosted by MSD, where the next steps for implementing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) were discussed. The delegation expressed gratitude to Tanzania for the warm hospitality and valuable knowledge shared.
The Ministry of Health, XFS, reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration between the two ministries, focusing on improving specific health services, enhancing health supply management, knowledge exchange, advancing digital health, developing healthcare workforce skills, and promoting economic sustainability and innovation. This strategic partnership aims to enhance resilient, efficient, and sustainable health systems in both countries.
The Ministry extended special thanks to the Ministry of Health and MSD for their substantial support and facilitation of activities during the visit. Their efforts and collaboration were crucial for enabling productive discussions, knowledge exchange, strengthening partnerships, and promoting sustainable health system development.
