Mogadishu, Somalia: The Commissioner of the Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Ma’allin Abdulle, convened a productive meeting with esteemed leaders from the Somali religious community. The meeting took place at the SoDMA headquarters and included Sheikh Aden Abuukar Osman, also known as Sheekh Sufi Yare, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Somali Religious Scholars, and Sheikh Mahmoud Abdil-Baari, Chairman of the General Council of Religious Scholars.
The primary focus of the discussion was the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Somalia and the role religious scholars can play in alleviating the suffering of vulnerable communities. The leaders deliberated on several critical areas, including enhancing the participation of religious scholars in relief efforts, raising public awareness on humanitarian issues, and mobilizing wealthy Somalis to contribute to fundraising initiatives aimed at supporting those in dire need.
Commissioner Abdulle emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts, stating, “The collaboration between the Disaster Management Agency and our respected religious leaders is vital in addressing the humanitarian challenges we face. By working together, we can amplify our efforts and ensure that aid reaches those who need it most.”
Sheikh Aden Abuukar Osman and Sheikh Mahmoud Abdil-Baari expressed their commitment to supporting the SoDMA’s mission. They highlighted the influential role of religious leaders in mobilizing communities and fostering a spirit of solidarity and generosity among Somalis.
