Barcelona, SONNA – The Minister of State for the Ministry of Communications and Technology of Somalia, MP, Ahmed Osman Diriye, was among the participants of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) organized by the GSMA, which took place in Barcelona, Spain, from February 26 to March 1, 2024.
The MWC is the world’s largest exhibition for the mobile industry, featuring prominent speakers and showcasing the latest innovations and trends in communication and technology. The theme of this year’s event was “Connected Impact”, highlighting how mobile technology can create positive social and environmental outcomes in various sectors and regions.
During the conference, the Minister of State for Communications and Technology met with several leaders of international organizations and major technology companies, and shared the efforts of the Somali government to develop digital infrastructure, internet security and digital skills development. He also explored potential partnerships and collaborations to advance the digital transformation of Somalia and the region.
The Minister of State also held talks with the heads of the World Bank, such as Guang Chen, Vice President of Infrastructure and Isabel Neto, Head of Digital, and discussed the support of the World Bank to East African countries in the field of communication and technology development. The Minister of State expressed his appreciation for their support and efforts to modernize Somalia’s communications and digitalization, and highlighted the opportunities and challenges facing the country and the region in this regard.
