Jeddeh(SONNA)-The Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism of the Federal Republic of Somalia,Da’ud Aweis Jama, attended a conference on the ‘Role of Media in Inciting Hatred and Violence’ in Jeddeh in Saudi Arabia.
The Muslim World League (MWL) gathered the Union of OIC News Agencies, comprising 57 countries, and the most significant international news agencies from Asia, Europe, Africa and the Americas in this international forum under Union of OIC News Agencies.
In his remarks, Minister Daud Aweys underscored the importance of verifying information shared with the community, urging the media to exercise caution and avoid the dissemination of news that could fuel hatred and incite discord within society.
Accompanying Minister Da’ud Aweys at the conference was the Permanent Representative of the Somali government to the Organization of Arab Culture and Information (OAC), Mr. Abdirahin Osman Cilmi. The collaboration at this international forum signals Somalia’s dedication to promoting responsible journalism and maintaining high ethical standards in media practices.
Parallel to his conference engagements, Minister Da’ud Aweys also held a meeting with the Secretary-General of the Islamic World Organization in Saudi Arabia. Their discussions revolved around Somalia’s potential to play a significant role in the development and promotion of academics and culture within the societies of the Islamic world.
