Mogadishu(SONNA)-Elections Implementation Teams of Hirshabelle and Galmudug States On Sunday released lists of 32 seats to be contested for the House of People elections to be held in Jowhar and Dhusamareb towns in days ahead, SONNA reported.
Hirshabelle State released list of 11 seats while Galmudug State released 21 seats as part of the latest agreement reached by National Consultative Council headed by the Somali Prime Minister, Mohamed Hussein Roble on 3-9 January, this month.
The Council agreed to resume the delayed electoral process from January 15th and conclude by 25 February 2022.
The State Election Implementation Team of Somaliland released lists of 5 members from the elders and civil society to ensure the transparency of the election on their side according to the statement.
Somalia’s International Partners also urged the Prime Minister and regional leaders to focus on the rapid implementation of the agreed decision so that a credible electoral process can be held and concluded on time.
Puntland, Southwest and Jubaland States are expected to follow suit soon.
Regional electoral teams’ move to release such lists of seats for the election is commendable.
