Mogadishu(SONNA)-Somalia on Thursday commemorated the 4th anniversary of the deadliest terrorist truck bombing on Oct. 14, 2017 which killed about one thousand people, injured others and devastated large areas including hotels and business centers at Zope junction in Mogadishu, officials said.
Somali president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo said in a statement that every Somali citizen will remember the sad feeling of the aftermath of the ruthless attack in which Somalis lost hundreds of nationals who were taking a big role in the country’s development and governance.
The president prayed the martyred victims, who lost their lives in the attack, to rest their souls in peace.
“ May Allah give mercy to the martyred ones of 14 October, 2017. They were citizens who deserved to have a beautiful life, but terrorists rejected that honorable life for them. It was unforgettable incident, but showed how our people stand side by side and support one another”, President Farmajo said.
The President called for the people to collaborate with Somali National Army in eradicating remnants of the terrorist militant group of Al-Shabab successfully.
On the other hand, Somalia’s International diplomatic community including United Nations expressed solidarity with all Somalis on this day.
The marking 4the anniversary of 14 Oct. comes as Somalia is at a transition of holding peaceful parliamentary election and pursuing fighting against Al-Shabab, a big threat to not only Somalia, but in the region at moment.
