Mogadishu(SONNA): During the afternoon of 21 July 2020, the Federal Government of Somalia, in partnership with the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), conducted an airstrike against ISIS – Somalia militants in a remote location near Timirshe at Isku shuban district in Bari
region of Somalia.

The airstrike killed seven (7) ISIS Somalia militants, protecting partner forces under attack at the time.

The Federal Government of Somalia and the United States are committed to fighting ISIS Somalia and Al-Shabaab terrorists, to prevent the deaths of innocent civilians that include men, women, and children in Somalia and its neighboring countries.

The Federal Government of Somalia and U.S. AFRICOM take great measures to prevent civilian casualties in the fight against the terrorist group and investigate each reported allegation fully.

At this time, no civilians are assessed to have been killed or injured in the attack. The efforts we take to protect and safeguard civilians starkly contrasts the indiscriminate attacks that ISIS Somalia and al-Shabaab regularly conduct against the civilian populace of Somalia.

This strike supported the efforts of the Federal Government of Somalia and Federal Member States to rid Somalia of the atrocities of ISIS Somalia and al-Shabaab and to provide a better future for the Somali people.”
