Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The 1st edition of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Security Seminar, organized by the European Union Training Mission in Somalia (EUTM-S), was held at the EUTM-S Headquarters from 15th to 18thFebruary.
The event was officially opened by Brigadier General Giuseppe Zizzari, the EUTM-S Mission Force Commander. He emphasized that this was the first-ever Somali joint-forces seminar, marking a historic milestone in national security. The seminar’s goal was to unite and strengthen cybersecurity efforts across all branches of the military.
The seminar brought together 19 representatives from the J6 branch of the Somali National Army, Navy and Air Force, engaging them in specialized sessions aimed at enhancing their cybersecurity and ICT resilience.
The four-day seminar focused on strengthening participants’ expertise in cyber defense, risk management, and the coreprinciples of ICT Security. It featured in-depth discussions on strategic approaches to securing communication and information systems, analyzing cyber threats, and implementing effective mitigation measures, offering tailored solutions to improve participants’ cybersecurity posture and infrastructure resilience.
In line with its mission mandate, the EUTM-S Advisor Teamcontinues to support the SNAF in developing a robust ICT security framework. By enhancing cyber defense capabilities and promoting a culture of information security awareness, EUTM-S remains committed to strengthening Somalia’s resilience against cyber threats and reinforcing the EU’s dedication to stability and security in the region.
