1 Al-Shabaab militant killed, 2 others injured in a landmine blast

Mogadishu(SONNA)-At least one terrorist militant group of Al-Shabaab was killed and two others injured in a home made blast at a key junction in Heliwa district in Mogadishu on Monday evening, SONNA reported.

Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Federal Republic of Somalia said that the Al-Shabaab militants were planting home made mines in the road when their poorly made device exploded, killing one and injuring two others.

The Security forces cordoned the crime scene as soon as the incident happened and managed to arrest the two injured members of the Al-Shabaab who are being treated at a special medical facility at moment according to SONNA.

“The tactic of planting mines which indiscriminately kill both soldier and civilian alike are becoming a more important part of their ongoing campaign of terror against the people of Somalia”, The Ministry said in a statement.

It said that this reliance on these indiscriminate ways of killing are largely due to Al Shabaab’s decreasing ability to fight Somali National Army units in direct combat.

Victories over the terrorist group in the cities of Jannaale, Mubaarak, Awdhegle and others have made this group desperate to instill fear to make up for these losses

The Federal Government of Somalia extended heartfelt gratitude to the brave Somali forces who patrol these roads daily.

It added that Somali National Army along with its AMISOM allies and international partners will continue the fight until all Somalis are free from terror.”
