Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mohamud Moalim Abdulle held a press conference and said that the floods have claimed 96 lives, 28 of them in a boat that capsized after the Al-Shabaab terrorists interference.
He also explains the coordinated flood mitigation efforts and urges preparedness for expected rains.
The Commissioner said that the floods have affected over 2.3 million people around the country, more than 900,000 people have been displaced, and the death toll is at 96, 28 of them capsized in a boat after the terrorist militants intervened and they were unable to escape with their lives, and 6 others got injured.
“The livestock lost are about 4,000 and the properties damaged or destroyed is 136,045 including houses, cars, and other things,” Commissioner Mohamud added.
The response of the Somali Disaster Management Agency reached at least 10,619 households and other agencies reached about 18,216 making it a total of 24,251 households.
