Speaking during an urgent open briefing convened to address rising regional tensions, the U.S. representatives clarified the American position to the international community. They stated unequivocally that Washington’s “policy on Somalia remains unchanged,” effectively dismissing recent diplomatic maneuvers attempting to alter the status of the northern region. The delegation made it clear that the United States recognizes only one Somalia and views the Federal Government in Mogadishu as the sole legitimate sovereign authority over the country’s entire territory.
The statement serves as a critical diplomatic intervention, aligning the United States with the African Union, the European Union, and the “A3 Plus” bloc in rejecting the fragmentation of the Somali state.
