The United Nations Security Council has added three al-Shabaab leaders to its sanctions list.
Al-Shabaab leaders sanctioned by the UN Security Council’s Sanctions Committee are Abukar Ali Adan, Maalim Ayman and Mahad Karatay.
Abukar Ali Aden is al-Shabaab’s deputy leader, while Maalim Ayman, according to the UN Security Council, is the founder of Jeysh-Ayman, an al-Shabaab brigade that carries out attacks inside Somalia and Kenya.
Mahad Karatay, also known as Abdirahman Ahmed Warsame, it is believed that he is an active member of al-Shabaab and the United States government has already put three million US Dollars as a bounty on the head of Mahad Karatay.

The State Department has also accused Ayman for the terriost attack in January 2020 on Simba base in Manda Bay, Kenya, in which a U.S. soldier was killed.

The US State Department has welcomed the UN Security Council’s decision to impose sanctions on the three al-Shabab militants.

The move comes after the request of the Somali government to the UN Security Council.
