Mogadishu(SONNA)-Somali National Army’s Danab Unit on Sunday received military support from the United States of America at a handing over event held at U.S Embassy in Mogadishu.
Minister of Defense of Somalia, Abdukadir Mohamed attended the handing over ceremony, telling that his Government received logistical support from U.S partner which was intended for the Somalia’s elite forces(Danab).
“We received lethal and non lethal logistical support from our U.S partner. This will boost the capabilities of our Somali National Army as they combat Al-Shabaab militants” Mr. Nur said.
U.S Ambassador to Somalia, Andre said that his Government was cheered to see success achieved by Somali Security forces in their historic fight to liberate communities suffering under Al-Shabaab.
“This is a moment of great opportunity to return Somalia sovereignty to territories long controlled by this network of murderers and extortionists. This is essential to Somalia’s full revival”, He said.
He stated that the Somali National Army’s two advanced infantry brigades, SNA Danab and SNA Gor Gor play a leading role in these operations.
“Today, the Government of the United States has delivered to SNA Dabab weapons, supply trucks and constructions vehicles, explosive ordinances disposal kits and medical supplies and equipment to support the continued offensive against Al-Shabaab”, The Ambassador said.
He added that his Government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Somalia’s efforts towards fighting Al-Shabaab.
