Mogadishu,(SONNA)-Minister of State, His Excellency, Hon. Ali Omar welcomed Germany’s Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, His Excellency Ambassador Heiko Nitzschke, along with Ambassador Yonis Hashi and Deputy Ambassador Martin Stein, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation in Mogadishu.
The discussions centered on advancing regional stability, security, and international cooperation, with particular attention to Somalia’s election to the U.N. Security Council for a two-year term starting in 2025.
Key discussion points focused on strengthening Somalia-Germany relations, tackling critical security challenges in the region, and expanding Somalia’s role in global governance, with particular attention to developments in Sudan and Haiti. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to advancing collaborative efforts, promoting regional economic growth, and supporting the Somalia-led AUSSOM mission through EU platforms following the end of ATMIS mandate in 2024.
The Minister of State reaffirmed Somalia’s unwavering commitment to combating terrorism, including Al-Shabaab and Daesh, and emphasized the importance of intensifying diplomatic efforts to achieve lasting peace and security in the region, pledging to exhaust all avenues to achieve this goal.
