Mogadishu (SONNA) – The Speaker of the Parliament of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Sheikh Adan Mohamed Noor (Madobobe), alongside the Second Deputy Speaker, Mr. Abdullahi Omar Abshirow, presided over a crucial meeting of the Standing Committee at the Speaker and Committees Center in Villa Hargeisa.
During this inaugural session, the committee reviewed a comprehensive report presented by a special committee appointed by the Speaker. This report, delivered by MP Dr. Ilmi Mohamud Noor, encompassed detailed arguments, perspectives, and recommendations concerning the independent institutions discussed in the House’s general meeting.
Additionally, the Special Committee on Prisons provided an in-depth report on the state of the nation’s prisons. This report covered various aspects, including the conditions of the prisons, the status and needs of the prisoners, the duration of the committee’s work, the stakeholders they engaged with, and the observations made during their prison visits.
The Standing Committee also deliberated on the agenda for the upcoming general meetings of the House of People. Reports from the chairpersons of several House committees were reviewed, and the schedule for next week’s sittings was approved.
In his closing remarks, Speaker Sheikh Adan Mohamed Noor (Madobobe) expressed his gratitude to the members of the Standing Committee and the special committees for their diligent work on the reports concerning prisons and independent institutions. He emphasized that these reports would be included in the agenda for the forthcoming general sitting of the next session of the parliament.
