Abshir Omar Jama, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia’s federal government, on Wednesday attended the 18th conference of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Baku, Azerbaijan.

During the conference, members discussed various challenges facing the organization, including ongoing wars within and along the borders of member states, the impact of climate change on the environment and living organisms, and the global economy and food shortages.

In addition to these topics, members also sought solutions to territorial, maritime, and political disputes between member states and regional organizations under NAM. The Palestinian issue, recent attacks by Israel in Palestine, and the war situation in Sudan were also discussed.

NAM, founded in Belgrade, Serbia in 1961, is the largest organization in the world outside of the United Nations. It comprises 120 member countries that are not politically aligned with major world powers. Somalia has been a member since its inception.
