Somalia’s Cabinet Greenlights Government Regulations and Signs Security Pact with Iraq

Mogadishu, SONNA – The Council of Ministers of the Federal Republic of Somalia has approved a comprehensive set of Government Regulations during its weekly meeting today. Chaired by Prime Minister Mr. Hamsa Abdi Barre, the cabinet also reviewed key developments in security, economic growth, and social services, while endorsing a landmark security cooperation agreement with Iraq.

The newly approved Government Regulations are designed to guide the core activities of the Somali government, ensuring efficient service delivery and improved governance for the Somali people. These regulations mark a critical step in strengthening institutional frameworks and enhancing transparency in public administration.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Barre emphasized the importance of these regulations in advancing Somalia’s development agenda. The Council received detailed reports on the ongoing security operations across the country, highlighting significant progress in the fight against extremist groups, including Al-Shabaab and ISIS. The Somali National Army, in collaboration with local and international partners, has inflicted heavy losses on these groups, liberating key areas and dismantling their networks.

Notably, the operations have resulted in the elimination of several high-ranking leaders, many of whom were foreign nationals, and the capture of others. These successes have disrupted the militants’ ability to harass local communities and have restored a sense of security in previously volatile regions.

The Council also approved a security agreement between Somalia and Iraq. The agreement aims to enhance collaboration in intelligence sharing, counterterrorism, and capacity building, reflecting the shared commitment of both nations to combatting global terrorism and promoting regional stability.

The cabinet also reviewed progress in economic reforms and the development of social services, including healthcare, education, and infrastructure. These efforts are part of the government’s broader strategy to foster sustainable development and improve the quality of life for all Somalis.

Prime Minister Barre reiterated the government’s dedication to eradicating extremism and rebuilding the nation. “Our security forces have made remarkable strides in protecting our people and reclaiming our territory. We remain steadfast in our mission to eliminate terrorism and create a prosperous future for Somalia,” he said.

The approval of the Government Regulations and the security agreement with Iraq underscore Somalia’s commitment to good governance, regional cooperation, and the fight against terrorism. As the country continues to make strides in security and development, these measures are expected to further solidify its path toward stability and growth.
