Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Ministry of Internal Security of the Federal Government of Somalia has commended the Somali public for complying with security directives and supporting the work of security agencies.
In a statement, the Ministry announced strengthened vehicle security procedures aimed at preventing suicide attacks by Al-Shabaab terrorists and enhancing overall public safety. As part of the new measures, all government officials—including members of Parliament and the Council of Ministers—will be prohibited from using vehicles without official license plates starting March 5, 2026.
The Ministry called on officials across all levels of government to fully cooperate with security agencies, particularly in the inspection, registration, and regulation of official vehicles. It emphasized that obtaining official license plates is a legal obligation for all vehicle owners and a critical tool that enables security forces to carry out their duties effectively and distinguish authorized vehicles.
Reaffirming its commitment to national security, the Ministry stressed the importance of continued collaboration between the public and security institutions to safeguard stability, law and order, and the overall safety of the country.
