MOGADISHU, SONNA – Somalia has received a much-needed shipment of 25,000 tons of aid from Russia to address the country’s flood crisis. The aid shipment, which arrived in Mogadishu on Thursday, was handed over to the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) in a ceremony attended by various officials, including the Minister of Internal Affairs, Ahmed Fiqi, the Minister of Ports, Abdullahi Abdullahi Ahmed Jama Ilkajir, the Minister of State for Trade, Osman Daallo, and other officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and SoDMA. The shipment was handed over by the Russian Ambassador to Somalia and Djibouti, Amb. Mikhail Golovanov.

Marking the first installment of promised aid to Africa, the shipment is expected to provide much-needed relief to flood-affected communities. The devastating floods have caused widespread displacement, destroyed homes and infrastructure, and disrupted livelihoods.

The Somali government has welcomed the Russian aid and expressed its gratitude for the country’s support.

In addition to the aid shipment, Russia has also pledged to provide Somalia with additional support in the form of humanitarian assistance.

The Russian aid shipment is a welcome boost for Somalia as the country continues to recover from the floods. The aid will help to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the disaster.
