Opening the programme in Mogadishu, the Minister of Internal Security called the security of the country's borders and airports a pillar of national security, as the government moves to modernise border management and raise the capability of the institutions that guard the gates of the state.

Meeting under Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama, the Council of Ministers approved the appointed members of the constitutional body that will govern the judiciary, endorsed the country's first culture and arts legislation, sealed an aviation agreement with Oman, embraced the African Youth Charter and named a new head of the Higher Education Council.

The Ministry of Defence said the planned strike, conducted by the Somali National Armed Forces with international partners, destroyed an Al-Shabaab hideout south of Teedaan, and reaffirmed that the protection of civilians remains the priority as the campaign presses on.
