Somalia Declares Wednesday, 18 February 2026, as First Day of Ramadan

Mogadishu, SONNA – H.E. Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs, Mukhtar Robow, announced that tomorrow, Wednesday, 18th February 2026, marks the first day of the blessed month of Ramadan for the year 1447 AH, following the sighting of the crescent in multiple regions across Somalia.

Minister Robow emphasized the thorough efforts undertaken to confirm the beginning of the holy month.

We have made careful and extensive observations to sight the crescent of Ramadan, and the Somali government confirms that the new month has been sighted in many parts of the country,” said Minister Sheikh Mukhtar Robow.

The announcement signals the start of a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection for Muslims across Somalia. Religious leaders and communities are encouraged to prepare for Ramadan in accordance with Islamic teachings.
