Addis Ababa, SONNA – The African Union’s Ministerial Committee on Candidatures convened for its biannual meeting, focusing on the endorsement of African candidates for key international positions. As a vital diplomatic platform, the committee ensures Africa’s strategic representation in global decision-making forums.
During the session, members assessed candidatures for major international roles, including positions within the United Nations Security Council, UNESCO, and other influential bodies. Discussions also reviewed the implementation of past resolutions, regional coordination efforts, and consensus-building where multiple African candidates are vying for the same positions.
Notably, Somalia had chaired this subcommittee for the past two years, demonstrating leadership in continental diplomatic affairs. As Somalia’s tenure concluded today, the country reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Africa’s collective influence on the global stage.
The meeting underscored the importance of unity in advancing Africa’s diplomatic priorities and ensuring a stronger presence in international institutions.
