Mogadishu, SONNA – In a prestigious event at the National Presidency, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud honored the top contestants of the Holy Quran Competition with an Iftar gathering. The ceremony was graced by the presence of Minister of Religion and Endowments Mukhtar Abu Mansoor, members of the Competition Committee, and the Organization of Somali Scholars.

The President awarded the top seven contestants in the competition’s second year, highlighting the event as a reflection of Somalia’s rich Islamic culture and the nation’s commitment to goodness and religious education.

President Mohamud praised the efforts of the young participants, their parents, and teachers, stating, “The dedication to memorizing the Holy Quran is a testament to our people’s deep connection to Islam.”

The event also served as a somber reminder of the sacrifices made by students, teachers, and religious institutions in the face of extremism. President Mohamud condemned the violence that has targeted students, Koranic schools, and mosques, reaffirming the nation’s resilience against such attacks.

The winners of the Holy Quran competition, recognized for their exceptional memorization and understanding of the Quran, are as follows:

1. Majidu Rahman Mohamed Abdullahi – $20,000

2. Yusuf Hassan Osman – $15,000

3. Hussein Hassan Nur – $10,000

4. Sadiq Mohamed Ali – $7,000

5. Fadomo Jamal Hashi – $5,000

6. Mohamed Haroun Mohamed – $3,000

7. Ikraan Abdikarim Hassan – $2,000

The ceremony concluded with President Mohamud’s awards presentation, marking a significant moment of unity and celebration for the Somali people.
